What's Up In September?
Hi friends & neighbors. I'm thinking I'll do a once-a-month "what's up?" post, probably mid-month, just to talk about what I've been up to and what's happening in the next month in my life. I'm hoping this will also give me a way to not think too hard about blogging and keep me in the habit of writing here.
So, what's up in September?
I started this blog. Okay, post over.
No, no, not really. In small news, I was at the park near my house with my wife and my dog on Friday evening, and it was super foggy and nice. I live within a mile or so of the ocean, and as a result my neighborhood gets extremely thick fog that blows across it in sheets in a soothing way. This park also happens to be in a pretty deep valley, so the cold air gets trapped and it consistently gets lots of fog. Love our fog here.
Photography
My wife bought a Canon EOS 300 35mm film camera a few months ago, and we just got our photos developed from the first two rolls we shot! I haven't shot anything on film since... probably the 20th century. Photography was a huge part of my childhood: I grew up in the '90s, and my mom took literally thousands of film photos¹, and transitioned quickly into digital² once it was available.
Anyway, check out some photos:
Zines!
We went to the San Francisco Zine Fest earlier in the month. We haven't been doing many big indoor events like this because of COVID, but the SF Zine Fest has required masks the last two years, and has as far as I know gotten their venue to turn the HVAC fans all the way up to improve ventilation. Not much to say about what I actually bought there, because I haven't read any of it yet. I love zines tho.
Speaking of, my wife & I will be tabling at the Hallow-Zine Fest on October 19, from 12-4pm, in Sacramento, CA. Come check it out and say hi! We'll be selling original art and zines, and probably some sculpts I'm working on.
Coda
That's all for this month. I'm still working on getting this blog set up the way I like, and I'm not 1000% sold on Neocities as the location for it, but I'll post an update if I end up moving from here. Bye!
¹ We have 4x6 prints of nearly all of them in big photo albums that live on the upstairs bookshelves in my childhood home. I did the math one time and it was something like just shy of 10,000 print photos.
² The first digital camera I ever used was a Sony Mavica MVC-FD75, which uses 3.5" floppy disks for storage!
